> FCE, Family Community Educators

The Family and Community Education Organization and their fce Clubs are open to all persons regardless to race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability. Membership Chairman is Debby Johnson 931- 368-0239 and Barbara Brown-there is 13 active fce clubs and 2 honorary clubs.
Montgomery County fce Clubs or Family and Community Education Organizations. 2008 Officers: President Kanina Davis, President Elect-Nancye Britton, Vice President of Programs –Ruby Cox, Vice Presidents of Public Policy-Josephine Moore and Linda James, Secretary- Louisa Morrison, Treasurer-Debby Johnson. The County is a part of the Western Region, Tennessee in partnership with the University of Tennessee and the National Association.

 
> Child Care Provider Training

Training conducted for Child Care Staff and Childcare Owners/Directors. There are rescources available for loan at the Smith Trahern Mansion Life Skills Learning Center Rescource and Research Room, located at 1st and McClure Street. The facility is opened Monday through Friday from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm.
 
> Expanded Food and Nutrition Program

Nutrition Education is offered to individuals that want to improve their health.
 
> Tennessee Nutrition and Consumer Education Program
Contact: Fran Curtis, Program Assistant
This educational program is offered primarily to individuals with a need to improve food safety and nutrition habits.
 
> Arthritus Self Help
Contact: Martha M. Pile
Arthritis Self Help Class-Tuesday and Thursdays-April 29 & May 1, 6, 8, 13 & 15, 10:30 a.m.-Noon. Fee for supplies is $24 (includes the self help book valued at $18.95). Register by calling the Extension Office 648-5725-ext. 29 or by e-mail to mmpile@utk.edu. Barbara Brown and Agent Pile are Certified Instructors for this course.
 
> Exercise Course MYB Master Your Body

BEST FRIENDS” CLASS-April 29, at 9:30, Smith Trahern Mansion (1st and McClure St) Have you heard about MYB “the No Equipment Necessary Complete Fitness Program”? If so listen closely, starting on April 29 and continuing on every Tuesday and Thursday for 8 weeks, you and your best friend can come for the price of one plus two dollars or $48 for one/$50 for two. (MYB) fitness program is a fun, fast and safe strength training program for all ages. By doing ten enjoyable, “no equipment necessary,” exercises, you gain the freedom to enjoy physical activity, lose the constant fear of injury. In 30 minutes, you can get fit, fight fat and have fun. > SUSTAINABLE TENNESSEE

There is three parts of our Sustainable TN in Montgomery and they include
1-ARTs Builds Community Grant: Agent wrote and secured this grant for Montgomery County Extension FCS.
2-Home Buyers Classes: February-March Seven Families (10 people) received hours toward securing certification and a class is scheduled for April 24, here at the Smith Trahern Mansion, 9am-2:30.
SARE Grant (Sustainable Community Innovation 3-Grants):Agent wrote for and secured a grant “The Gathering of Homestead Economic & Entrepreneurs of Food Based- Organic & Other Related Businesses. Agent will work with all the counties that touches Montgomery County. In a TN Nut Shell we will 1-form a coalition that meets three times annually and 2-have a Gathering of Entrepreneurs every other month for two years, 3-create a lending library of books, 4-publication and other tools needed for resources in this area, 5-map communities and create a community level brochure and display, 6-purchase a mixer for the community kitchen, 7-secure additional training for key coalition members,8-publish a quarterly newsletter.

 
> The Gathering of Homestead Businesses

The Gathering of Homestead Economic & Entrepreneurs of Food Based Organic & Other Related Businesses. Agent will work with all the counties that touches Montgomery County. > First Time Home Buyers

Potential Home Buyers are encouraged to contact the Extension as their first stop in the home buyer process. For THDA Loans it is a requirement to have an 8 hour or great course with a certified THDA Instructor.
 
> TN Shapes Up

Includeds our Arthritis Self Help Course, the MYB Exercise Class, Culinary Arts and other food safety and security programs.
 
> Culinary Arts for the Everyday Cook, "Making Healthy Foods Taste Better"

Agent is serving on State Culinary Arts Study Group and has attend the UT Culinary Arts School. The State Study Team Agents from Middle and Western Region (four from the Western Region and two from the Central Region) will offer a series of classes. If the people of the regions are excited as the agents are we are in for some good times. There is a series of four classes for a fee $225 or $65 each, Classes will be offered over a period of time and also be available through a weekend retreat after Christmas and UT will have a gift certificate available for the classes, “GREAT GIFT IDEA.”
